A Joy Strategy for Leaders- Part 2: Your Joy-Building Blueprint

Welcome back. Now that you’ve stopped postponing joy, it’s time to build it.

Here’s the distinction every leader needs to remember:

Happiness is fleeting. Joy is deep. Happiness depends on moments. Joy depends on meaning.

This is where your Joy List comes in.

Your Joy List Has Two Columns:

1. Joy Builders

These are the practices that strengthen your spirit and anchor your purpose.

2. Joy Barriers

These are the things that drain you, distract you, or dim your light.

And yes—it really is that simple.

Examples of Joy Builders:

  • A morning walk that lets you breathe before the day begins

  • Reading Scripture that grounds your spirit

  • A five-minute silence break to reset your mind

  • A small check-in with a staff member that feels honest and human

  • Practicing gratitude daily

  • Looking for moments of laughter like it’s your job

These aren’t luxury items. They are leadership tools.

When leaders identify their Joy Builders, they stop reacting to the world around them and start leading from the inside out. Joy becomes your foundation—not an afterthought.

So here’s the next question:

What is your #1 Joy Builder? Write it down. Start practicing it today.

And yes… drop it in the comments so we can celebrate it with you.
